The New York City mayor’s race is a cautionary tale for progressives

Here in New York City, we just had a Democratic mayoral primary. It should serve as a major wake-up call for progressives.

While the final ranked-choice tally is not yet in, among those who voted early or on primary day, Eric Adams received 32% of the first-place vote, giving him a substantial lead over Maya Wiley (22%) and Kathryn Garcia (19%). Either woman could still come from behind and eclipse Adams, but it’s unlikely. (Full disclosure: I had Adams fourth out of five on my ballot.)

Adams spent 22 years with the New York Police Department, rising to the rank of captain. He served four terms as a New York State Senator and is currently in his second term as Brooklyn Borough President. But the most instructive fact about him — for progressives, at least — is that he’s a moderate.

Oh, no, not a moderate!

They’re the most dangerous because they’re just conservatives in disguise.

Calling yourself a moderate is really just a way of saying you don’t want anything to change — especially on race.

To all the progressives who’ve been pushing this garbage take, may Adams’ success in bluest of blue N.Y.C. illustrate that you’re not only wrong…
